Bob's Red Mill & Ener-G Foods

A catalog from Bob's Red Mill came in my mail the other day containing recipes, advertisements and an article about the company.   It reminded me of my first experience with Bob's Red Mill over 30 years ago.  I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue 3 1/2 years before this company started and was I ever so excited to have a few gluten free products.

Back in the early years of this disease there were no labeling of food, no internet just a set of encyclopedias and a Webster Dictionary.  I started researching all the ingredients in foods and began my gluten free life.   I spent a lot of money trying out recipes with only one disaster after another.  I was grinding my own rice flour and trying to make muffins, cookies, pancakes etc. so I would have a few things to eat besides the basic food groups.

I also found another gluten free company, Ener-G Foods that was really good and was able to place orders through the mail.  As the internet began to take off it became easier to find gluten free products.  The Celiac Sprue Association and Gluten Intolerance Group was started and has helped get the labeling of foods on the products.

It is so much easier to be gluten free in today's world and I am very grateful to companies like Bob's Red Mill and Ener-G Foods forging the way to provide gluten free ingredients throughout the entire process.  That means every stone-grinding mill, every mixer, every packaging machine, every forklift and every air-vent is dedicated to making delicious and healthy products that are safely free from gluten.

We now have 8 people in our family diagnosed with Celiac Sprue.  Thanks to all those who provide the "Gluten Free" foods!

Happy Healthy Eating!
