Stress Management

STRESS Can we define stress? Is it the pressure you feel when you are asked to turn in an assignment two weeks early? Is it having too many demands made on your time? Is it the craziness preceding that long awaited wedding day? Is it the anxiety you feel when a loved on is very ill?

Stress is all around us everyday. How do you cope with stress? Unfortunately, most of the stressful situations we face in modern life don't require a physical response so the physiological commotion builds up putting us on edge and keeping us there. We feel tense, frustrated and anxious.

Not all stress is negative. Sometimes stress can help us to perform better by challenging us and keeping us on our toes. But when demands are too great or when we can't find a way to cope with stressful challenges and use them to our advantage, stress can have a detrimental effect on our emotional and even physical health.

Some people turn to drugs, illegal and legal. Some people turn to eating anything and everything. Some people turn to exercising, reading a book, going for a walk, taking a bath, playing a musical instrument. There are many healthy ways to cope with stress.

Sometimes a doctor might not know what is wrong so they take the easy way out and say, "It's caused by stress." I was sick for many years finally being diagnosed with Celiac Sprue. When the root cause for my symptoms was corrected, I started on my road to recovery.

Stress can cause Coronary Heart Disease, problems with blood cholesterol, Adrenaline, etc. Take the time to understand your behavior and learn to cope with stress in a positive way.
